    Basic First Aid Procedures

     

    Remember that if your in an emergency First Aid is NOT a substitute for veterinary treatment.  Instead First Aid will help control the situation until you are able to get your companion to a veterinarian. 

     

     

     

COMMON EMERGENCIES

WHAT TO DO

 Vomiting

Remove all food and water until your pet has not vomited for 8-10 hours, and than give small amounts  of water.  If no vomiting of water occurs you can give your pet boiled chicken and rice.  Call us if vomiting persists for more than 24 hours. 

 Diarrhea

Feed your pet boiled chicken and rice.  Call us if diarrhea persists for more than 24 hours.

Bleeding


Apply pressure to stop bleeding.  If bleeding cannot be controlled call us.

Laceration


Apply pressure to control bleeding and then call us.


 Minor Wounds

Clip the hairs around the wound with clippers and thoroughly rinsing the wound with water.


Seizures     

Keep pet away from any objects.  Time the seizure.  After the seizure has stopped keep pet warm and quiet and then call us.

 Heat Stroke


If your pet's body temperature is 106 degrees or higher, place animal in a tub of cool running water.  Stop cooling if animal's temperature reaches 103 degrees and then call us.
